She was lived in the community of Augsburg, Germany during the time when the Berlin Wall came down. While living in Germany, she visited exotic places like London, England Paris, France Vincenzia, Italy and the country of Czechelovakia. With her family, she also traveled as far as Europe for several years.
Because of John's vision for his family, to join the United States Army, Valerie had an opportunity to visit and live in a multitude of cities, countries, and communities ranging from Washington state to Maryland in the north to Louisiana and Texas in the south. She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel James who was stillborn. A union to which they welcomed into the world: Tiffany LaShay, born December of 1977 John David Junior and Daniel James, born May of 1981 and Elizabeth Nicole, born August of 1982. Valerie and John were married directly after high school on June 7, 1980. While at Sarasota High, she met the love of her life, John Sellers. Valerie graduated from Sarasota High School in Sarasota, Florida.
